I get tons of questions about how to do language therapy evaluations effectively, so I wanted to share this special Q & A session I did for the members of Language Therapy Advance Foundations.
Most people want to know what test protocols they should use and how to supplement with non-standardized tools; and it can be difficult to navigate all the options and find ways to best understand your students’ profile.
Recently in the Language Therapy Advance Foundations members’ group, someone asked a great question about using evaluations with an interpreter, so in the video below I discuss options for that particular case.
I also get in to some other common language therapy questions about picking robust tier 2 vocabulary, as well as clearing up some confusion about language developmental milestones.
Specifically, I share:
(1:29) What language do we use to explain the results of assessments if they haven’t been normed for our student’s profile (for example, you’re administering the CELF-5 to a student using and interpreter)?
(7:00) How do we encourage kids to use more robust language when studying Tier 2 words (and what does it mean to make vocab more robust)
(12:49) How do we figure out what category abstract nouns fit in to when it’s not automatically clear in the definitions?
(19:00) CDC developmental milestones-what does this mean for SLPs? Should we be concerned?
You can listen to the video Q & A below:
I mentioned that I will be discussing CDC milestones in the Are they 18 yet?® podcast in the episode that is coming out March 23, 2022.
