As a follow up to my last post on sentence combining; I wanted to give you some quick resources with syntax worksheets for speech therapy.
There are MANY ways you can come up with creative simple sentences to combine to compound sentences.
You can write sentences about different media, like images, videos, and stories. You can have kids come up with sentences, or you can write sentences about past events or experiences.
But I know you may like to have some syntax worksheets for speech therapy on hand so you have some resources ready to go.
That’s why I’ve done some searching and found some free syntax resources for you. Here’s the list:
Compound Sentence Writing Template from Speech Peeps
My first recommendation comes from Speech Peeps by Nicole Allison. In this post; she describes a creative variation of the activity that I described in this post using ribbons.
You can see a visual of how her dry erase board looks throughout the activity, and she also has a free compound sentence writing template that you can download and use as you introduce sentence combining to your students.
Speech-Language Resources Sentence Guide
This next site, Speech-LanguageResources.com has tons of no-frills resources for language geeks. On this page here, you’ll find a complete explanation of different sentence types (for those of us who need a grammar lesson ourselves).
You’ll also find a free printable pdf with a sentence structure flowchart under the “Sentence Guide” heading. This cheat sheet will give you a quick reference you can share with your students so they can learn about the different sentence types.

Last, if you’re looking for tons of FREE printable syntax worksheets for speech therapy, you’ll want to check out this page by EnglishLinx.com.
This site isn’t designed for speech language pathologists; but there’s no reason we can’t use the resources to give our students the strategic practice they need.
