I remember my first year as an SLP.
I heard lots of sensational stories about how rewarding it was going to be…and how it was going to be so nice to be done with work at 3 PM and have the summer off.
But when I actually got in to my job the whole “get off work at 3 and have all weekend off” seemed like a sick joke.
Instead of that supposed freedom I’d heard about, I remember working well in to the nights and weekends just to keep my head above water.
It got so bad that at one point, my doctor told me I was literally killing myself at the pace I was going.
“You’ve got to slow down the pace of your life,” she told me.
I tried things like planners, getting to work early, and other “time-management” strategies…but nothing seemed to work.
Whenever I did manage to find an extra hour here or there…I was so overwhelmed I didn’t even know how to use it…so I’d end up just wasting time on the internet.
I knew that I SHOULD be spending time figuring out a better protocol for my language therapy cases (I felt like I had the rest somewhat under control; like articulation and fluency).
The problem was I had no idea where to focus most of my energy, or what strategies I should plan to do because nothing I did ever seemed to work.
So when I’d plan, I’d sit there in front of my shelves of materials, clueless which ones to grab. Frozen by indecision.
You’re probably already starting to realize that with so many different materials out there and so many different language skills to target (not to mention all those research articles to dig through), the number of choices is overwhelming.
Which is why creating a system in just one area of your job…or your life…can make a massive impact on your overall health and wellbeing.
Imagine how amazing that would feel if you could finally find a solution for that ONE area that causes the most stress and headache?
You probably already know that for a lot of SLPs, that area is language therapy (they do make up close to half our caseloads, after all).
That’s why you don’t need more materials…and you don’t need more people to tell you to “read the research and know EBP”…
And you certainly don’t need people to tell you that burnout is just something that happens when you’re an SLP (because that’s a bunch of BS).
I’ll talk about what you DO need in this video in the Effective Language Therapy for SLPs group.
I’ll share:
…The #1 mistake people make when it comes to language therapy, and what to do instead.
…Why short-term fixes like low-cost downloads, freebies, flashcards, or low-prep printables are costing you time, money, and sustainable treatment outcomes.
…How to play the long game when it comes to language therapy and why it’s the key to serving your students at a higher level and creating more freedom in your life.

The bottom line is that I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed in language therapy-and you don’t have to if you have the right tools and systems in place.
That’s why I’ve created the Effective Language Therapy for SLPs Facebook group for clinicians who want to transform their language therapy so they can make more income and impact.
